2. Blacklevels: Doing it the right way.

In this tutorial we learn how to adjust blacklevels on CG using various techniques. The aim being, trying not to lose detail in the darkest/blackest areas. Also a quick tip to set the initial black level if you are working on footage that is shot on film.

In this tutorial we learn the importance of comping with keeping the 'B' stream as the dominant stream in our comps. Although it is not a rule and there are workarounds if you don't comp like this, keeping the B branch as the main one has its own benefits when it comes to information(channels) flowing downstream.

1. Sharpening Images:

2. Matching Grain:

Sharpening an image increases the contrast on the edges, making them look crunchy and torn around the high contrast areas.

To avoid this convert your linear image to log space first; sharpen it and then convert it back to linear.

Look at the grain without the LUT applied as with the LUT you are not looking at the true BLUE channel. You are looking at a channel corrupted by some CC.
